Patimban Port is expected to export as many as 160,000 units of vehicles (cars) this year (2022), Ministry of Transportation has said.

“This terminal has regularly handled export since its first operation three months ago. We hope, this port can handle as many as 160,000 units of vehicles this year,” Minister of Transportation Budi Karya Sumadi said Sunday, March 6.

“This terminal has yearly capacity of 218,000 units, both export and domestic,” Budi Karya added.

In encouraging the national automotive industry growth and in supporting fluent export and domestic distribution as well, Budi Karya expects Patimban to build collaboration with Tanjung Priok Port (Indonesia Kendaraan Terminal/IKT).

“Hopefully, we have twin hubs (hub car ports). Tanjung Priok will be the hub for the West (from Bekasi to western) and Patimban will be the hub for the east (Bekasi to Eastern Java),” said Budi Karya.

Budi Karya noted that Patimban development would continue, thus being able to handle more than 7.5 million TEUs of containers and 600,000 CBU of vehicles.

Since the handover to PT Pelabuhan Patimban Internasional (PPI) in December 2021, several export activities have been carried out from Patimban Port to Port of Brunei Darussalam, the Philippines, Thailand, Singapore and Japan.

Patimban Port and Kertajati Airport, Bekasi Region, Karawang, Purwakarta also support the triangle of economic growth areas that will be interconnected, mutually supporting one another, so that they have competitiveness, especially for export products, including in the automotive sector.

“We hope to further improve people lives, promote industry, and encourage exports,” said Budi Karya.

Patimban Port is one of the National Strategic Projects (PSN), which has an important role in supporting the national economic growth, especially in the West Java.

This port will become the forerunner of a new industrial and urban area in West Java called Rebana (Cirebon, Subang, Patimban and Kertajati) Metropolitan, which covers six regencies and one City (Cirebon), with the growth heart of the Patimban Port area and Kertajati Airport.

Built since 2018, currently the construction has entered Phase 1-2 (2021-2023) which includes the construction of a container terminal with a capacity of up to 3.75 million TEUs and a vehicle terminal with a total capacity of up to 600,000 CBU as well as a roro ship terminal.

As for the port area, there are currently port facilities, such as container quay (420 mx 34 m), car quay (300 mx 33m), vehicle storage areas (capacity 218.000 CBU), container stacking areas (capacity 250.000 TEUs), area reclamation (60 Ha), basin dredging (-10 m), port road and offices.
